Extreme Thing 2009

This past weekend was the Extreme Thing in Las Vegas. Extreme Thing is an annual event promoted by a major LV radio station. Each year there is a BMX comp ran in conjunction with wrestling, roller derby, skateboarding, and live music. Bad Religion headlined this year and the crowds were insane. I rolled out there with Chris Raceles and Pete Demos. Chris shot some cool video but slept most of the time in his full clothes, and Pete shot some amazing photos. Here's how our trip went...

We rolled in to Vegas about 7pm on Thursday, checked into our hotel and headed straight to Anthem Skate Park. It was a blast but really windy. I ended up OTB and with 5 stitches above my right eye which was pretty cool. Even better was being at the clinic til 1:30am getting them. Friday morning was a big session at TJ Lavin's yard. A lot of guys showed up and made for an all day riding session. You can see in the picture of Nastazio below just how rad TJ's yard is right now. Lines every where. It's BMX paradise.

After we rode all day we headed to go see Steel Panther which is an 80's hair metal cover band/comedy show. The guys play old Motley Crue and talk all kinds of trash about randoms in the audience between each song. They're amazing and you should check them out if you have the chance.

Saturday was the event which turned into an all day gig. There were two rounds of qualifying with over 50 guys entered in the contest. Ryan qualified first which was rad. The final was pretty insane, we had 2 video cameras so look out for a web edit coming soon. Everyone was going big. Ryan tried a huge transfer in his final run and bailed, his bike took out a camera man who was in a bad spot between the jumps. I got it on video which was pretty amazing. Thankfully both Ryan and the photo guy were alright. When the results were in it was Darden with the win and Nyquist with the second. Pretty cool. Cory had a couple crash runs in qualifying and didn't make the final but he still rode good. Below are some photos of the event and the jam at TJ's the day before. One of our racers, Steven Cisar, dropped by today to build one of our new sample Race frames. The frame weighs 3.4lbs and is a 21.25" top tube. Fully integrated head tube this time around and a new slim drop out. Come by the Haro tent and check this frame out in Bakersfield next month. Legit.

Nasty Racing in Phoenix

Ryan Guettler put some footage together from the race in Phoenix about 2 weeks ago.
Nasty rocked his Convert frame complete gyro and all, no need for a race bike! Look at his pick up style on the jumps...
These guys just did it for fun, and it looked fun. Vans TM Jerry Badders was on a Haro also.

Enjoy The Trick Flatland Jam

It rained all weekend and gave us all a chance to do something a little different, some of us went down and checked out the Flatland Jam going on here in Portland and it was a lot of fun. A bunch of old school guys that shred still, Gary from bmxmuseum, Fish from the old Redline ads (still wearing his Jester hat haha) and many more. It was fun to watch their crazy flat moves while we did our thing too.

There's more PHOTOS and a VIDEO of the jam too check em out! Thanks to Joe Leomena for throwing such fun jam!

Dennis Gets Surgery today...

Dennis will take on shoulder surgery today to repair an ongoing problem he has suffered with since July last year.
Dennis will be off the bike 6-8 weeks.

Being 17, and having a back yard ramp this time off must be torture!

Funny guys.

Tony D and the guys in the art department thought it was funny to ruin a pretty good race shot with a butterfly tattoo. They are going to pay for this when they least expect it. Enjoy. -dB

P.S - We're having a bench press competition here at Haro within the BMX department. Chris did 190, I did 175, and Tony D was the weakest link with 170, EPIC FAIL at 175. A butterfly tattoo made him feel better about losing.

Nyquist in Greenville Part 2

I caught up with Nyquist to see whats going on at the moment with the Unit, the street spot, and what is checkmeout.com? And there's even a couple of new tricks at the end...

Quick update

Nyquist's part 2 in Greenville will be up in a day or so, due to "the press list" coming out on vital over the weekend, we delayed the release as part 2 is an interview also. In part 2 we talk about "checkmeout.com",The Units future, and the fairly new Ghetto Street spot.

I myself have been pretty busy the past week, The week started by showing the Levis Napolitan team around Greenville, filming for a Vans web vid with Justin Kosman about a new shoe that's coming out, and getting some pics for Haro, also with Kosman.
Guettler just got back from Australia and he brought Spring with him, I'm glad for the two of them, and the sessions will be happening soon enough and Ill get some more video's for you to see...

Phoenix ABA Race.

I just got home from a long weekend in Phoenix for the ABA Winter Nationals. A great event hosted by the ABA. Pro class was stacked with talent and although none of our pros had weekends worth writing home about, Cory Nastazio showed up and took home the victory in the 30 novice class. After his big win the fans lined up outside Vans Shoes pit area waiting for Cory to come out and sign autographs. He's shown above laying down the speed that got him to the finish line first, and below leaving the Vans motorhome with kids lined up everywhere.

  • Steven Cisar looked stylish as usual
  • AA Pro Josh Oie is psyched on his new Team Issue frame
  • ABA's National #1 Pro and our very own THE BRONCO, Khalen Young
  • Khalen was out front all day but had an unlucky bad start in the semi final
  • Greg Romero won Vet Pro today on a Haro.
  • Our Truck driver, Shannon Troglia, handed out promo items with this facial expression.

Here are some photos from the ABA National last month in Lake Perris. It was a mud race in case you were wondering...
  • Tony D showed up prepared with rain boots. This was not TD's first rodeo
  • Vans Team Manager, Jerry Badders, rocks a Haro PRO XL.
  • Flooded but still looking good, Haro/Rockstar pit area
  • Khalen under his umbrella like Rhianna
  • Shannon is dead serious about Haro BMX, he decided.

It's now 11pm, I've spent the last two days at the BMX track and the last two nights sleeping on a hotel floor. I ran full speed through Sky Harbor International only to make my flight by 2 minutes. I'm beat and I'll be enjoying a comp day tomorrow [thanks Pete] please don't call me before noon. Cheers! -dB

Back from Greenville

Man Greenville is a fun place to ride! I just went back there for a week to ride and hang out with all my friends again. I had a blast! So much fun riding the Unit. That place never gets old. Did quite a bit of filming while I was there too, so hopefully you can expect a video or two to come out of the trip. My plan as of right now is to fly back there every month or two, and stay for a week and ride. There's not much in the way of big ramps in Northern California, so I guess I'll have to travel to where the big ramps are.

Unfortunately I don't have any photos to show for my trip right now, but Keep your eyes peeled for some video coming soon.
