Last weekend was the ABA Winter Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona. As usual the track was super smooth and ready for a good weekend of racing. In the AA Pro class there was 55 entries looking to qualify for the 8 man main event. Our boy Khalen Young was looking fast all day and breezed his way through qualifying. Khalen was on the lead group headed into turn one in the main event but ended up 5th at the line after some bumping in the corners and lost momentum. A great Saturday night showing for Khalen though, especially after taking a 3 month break from the race scene. Cory Nastazio was in the building and doubled on Saturday with a win in 31 intermediate as well as winning the Freestyle celebrity race against Scotty Cramner, Allistair Whitton, Jerry Badders, and Ryan Guettler. Pretty funny seeing those guys race on freestyle bikes. Rockstar athlete manager Steve Mateus was there, racing on a Haro Race LT for his first race since Moses lost his sandles in the desert. Steve mustered up a 2nd place in his novice class. Pretty good first weekend for Steve.
Sunday was a mud fest, both of our AA's went out in the quarter finals because of slippery track conditions. Nothing to write home about with a mud race, except for to simply say I'm glad I sat it out and my bike isn't rusty right now. Check out the photo gallery from the weekend, and check back in 2 weeks for more race action from Desoto, Texas!
